DEI and USAWP: Howard University Club Water Polo
USA Water Polo and Diversity in Aquatics Launch Co-Ed Water Polo Team at Howard University
USA Water Polo, in partnership with Diversity in Aquatics, has announced an exciting new initiative: the formation of a co-ed water polo team at Howard University.
Thanks to an $8,000 grant from USA Water Polo, this initiative marks a major step forward in expanding aquatic programs at HBCUs while advancing efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion within water sports.
This historic launch marks a significant milestone, introducing water polo to the only historically Black college or university (HBCU) with such a program. The initiative aims to promote inclusion within aquatic sports, providing new pathways for student-athletes of diverse backgrounds to engage with water polo. USA Water Polo and Diversity in Aquatics goal is addressing underrepresentation in aquatic sports, creating greater access to opportunities for marginalized communities.
The program at Howard is expected to foster a culture of participation, skill development, and community-building both on campus and beyond.
The launch aligns with broader efforts to grow water polo nationwide and reflects a commitment to expanding the sport's reach into diverse communities. Stay tuned for more updates as the Howard water polo team begins to make waves on campus.
